SDRC Assistive Technologies Loan Program

Supporting the academic pursuits of students with disabilities across The Claremont College community.

LiveScribe Pen

The SDRC has developed an Assistive Technology Loan Program aimed at helping you better succeed in your classes. We offer a variety of resources available to all 7cs, one of them being the LiveScribe Pen. For more information about this great program or any training videos, please see below.

What is a LiveScribe Pen?

The LiveScribe pen is a ballpoint pen with an embedded computer and digital audio recorder. When used with Anoto digital paper, it records what it writes for later uploading to a computer, and synchronizes those notes with any audio it has recorded. When accessing the online platform, you will be able to review your handwritten notes as they were being taken, all while listening to the recording.

What are the features?

A Livescribe smartpen is about the size and weight of a large pen (5/8″ x 6 1/8″) and is equipped with a removable ball-point ink cartridge, a microphone to record audio, a speaker for playback, a small OLED display, an infra-red camera, and internal flash memory that captures handwritten notes, audio, and drawings.

Is there a tutorial I can watch to better learn how to use the pen?

Yes, please follow the link below to view an online tutorial that will show you all of the basics on how to set up your pen and navigate all of the features.
