Mike Hallinan, Assistant Vice President and Director of Campus Safety & Emergency Services, joined TCCS in April 2023. In this role, Mike will organize, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the operational and financial functions of the Campus Safety Department, to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and internal policies and procedures. Campus Safety focuses on creating a safe space for The Claremont Colleges community to live, learn, and grow. Campus Safety responds to emergency fire, medical, and criminal calls. The department also provides security-related non-urgent service such as key services, dedicated patrols, special event staffing, and after-hours support.
Mike has over 34 years of experience in public safety and as a law enforcement professional. Most recently, for the last four years, he served as Lieutenant of the Operations Division at the University of California, Irvine Police Department. In his role, he served as the California System-wide Response Team Commander. He responded to unique situations and incidents, overseeing a team of UC Police personnel at the UCI and the other nine UC campuses as needed. Prior to UCI, Mike spent 26 years at the City of Irvine Police Department, rising through the ranks with multiple promotions and finishing his career as the Commander, Administrative Services and Support Services Divisions. Mike began his law enforcement career at the Los Angeles Police Department and then lateraled to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He has a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Northridge. Mike is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, POST Command College, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the Law Enforcement Business Fellowship, the Los Angeles Police Department Leadership Program, and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership program.
