Monkeypox Update

2022-08-08T16:09:36-07:00

As you all may be aware, the Biden administration declared monkeypox to be a public health emergency in the U.S. on August 4, 2022. Both California as well as Los Angeles County have also made similar declarations recently. First, I would like to share with you a few current facts regarding monkeypox: Monkeypox is a viral infection As of August 4, 2022, there have been more than 6,600 confirmed cases of monkeypox in the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico While this is a cause for concern, thankfully, monkeypox is rarely fatal and no deaths have been reported in the U.S. so [...]

Spring 2022 Update

2022-01-14T11:05:13-08:00

Dear 7C Students, While we have remained hopeful that COVID-19 would continue to recede, unfortunately as you are likely aware, we are in the midst of another surge with the rapid spread of COVID-19 due primarily to the Omicron variant. The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is highly transmissible, and we expect to see cases and transmission on campus. Thankfully though, most cases due to the Omicron variant are milder, especially in those who are fully vaccinated or up to date with their booster. Boosters are effective and should help in limiting the spread, as will the use of upgraded masking (surgical [...]

COVID-19 Boosters

2021-11-22T08:47:33-08:00

Dear 7C students, Earlier today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the emergency use authorizations (EUA) for both the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines authorizing use of a single booster dose for all individuals 18 years of age and older after completion of primary vaccination with any FDA-authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices also universally endorsed these Pfizer and Moderna booster doses for all individuals 18 years of age and older. I anticipate CDC Director Rochelle Walensky will soon sign off on these recommendations so that booster doses [...]

Respiratory Illness on Campus

2021-10-13T15:16:06-07:00

Dear TCC students, Our Fall 2021 semester is well under way and so far, things have gone remarkably well from a campus health perspective. COVID-19 case rates have stayed low on campus and in those rare instances of a positive COVID-19 case, there has been very little to no transmission amongst the identified close contacts. While this is very welcome news, I would caution against letting our guard down and becoming complacent with the proper hygiene and social distancing mitigating factors which have helped get us here. While currently on the downturn, this pandemic continues to rage on and LA County [...]

Fall 2021 Update

2021-08-05T11:18:05-07:00

Dear 7C Students, After more than 16 months away due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the eager moment where students can finally return to our beautiful campuses is finally upon us. We, here at Student Health Services (SHS), have been working diligently with various stakeholders across the 7Cs to ensure that our campuses are ready for you. Our planning began with great optimism as the efficacy of currently authorized vaccines started becoming clear. Even as our community now faces the delta variant, data so far points to continued great protection from these vaccines against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Without these vaccines, [...]
