JANET BISHOPDean of The Claremont Colleges Library

Janet Bishop joined TCCS in 2019 as the A.J. McFadden Dean of The Claremont Colleges Library.  She is responsible for high-level leadership, strategic planning and operational management related to Library functions and services for The Claremont Colleges community .

Janet was previously the Associate University Librarian for Content and Collections at the University of Minnesota where she provided leadership for the Libraries’ open access publishing services and the development, acquisition, management and preservation of the Libraries’ electronic resources and general collections.  She was also Associate Professor and Coordinator for Archives and Special Collections at Colorado State University and has held positions related to librarianship and archives at Seattle University and the University of Washington.

Janet holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Princeton University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Washington, and a Master of Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has served on a variety of library-related national committees and state and local boards, including the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board (Governor’s Office, State of Colorado), the Capitol Building Advisory Committee (Governor’s Office/State Legislature, State of Colorado), and the FamilyWorks Community Resources Center Board (City of Seattle).  Currently, Janet is serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) as a member-at-large.
