Janet Bishop joined TCCS in September 2019 as the A.J. McFadden Dean of the Library. She is responsible for high-level leadership, strategic planning and operational management related to Library functions and services for the Claremont Colleges community.
Janet was previously the Associate University Librarian for Content and Collections at the University of Minnesota Libraries where she was involved in the development, acquisition, management, and preservation of the Libraries’ electronic resources and general collections. As a member of the Libraries’ executive‐level Cabinet, she had input into strategic initiatives, the realignment and reimagining of services and activities, and funding priorities. She was also engaged in the Big Ten Academic Alliances’ (BTAA) consortial activities to support open access initiatives through shared collection investments. Janet also served as the Coordinator for Archives and Special Collections, and Associate Professor at Colorado State University (CSU). Janet also has held several other library positions at Seattle University and the University of Washington.
Janet holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Princeton University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Washington, and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has served on a variety of committees and boards including the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board (Governor’s Office, State of Colorado), the Capitol Building Advisory Committee (Governor’s Office/State Legislature, State of Colorado), and The Family Works Community Resources Board (City of Seattle).
