Event Series Event Series: GIS TRAINING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Are you interested in learning more about the field of GIS (Geographic Information System)?

If so, we invite you to attend a 2-day GIS Certification course, offered FREE of cost!!! The goal of this training program is to increase representation in GIS and planning in Southern California. This training is for students of color, women, and those from the LBGTQ community.  The course will teach participants about GIS and basic planning concepts.

What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates, manages, analyzes, and maps all types of data. GIS connects data to a map, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns, relationships, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication and efficiency as well as better management and decision making.

Students who complete the 2-day training will receive a certificate with completion seals from GISCI. Participants will also learn more about paid internships and other opportunities within the field.

The training will occur on two different dates.  *You must select only one option from the following dates:

Session 1: Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st from 9:00am-4:00pm. (Location: Honnold Library)

OR

Session 2: Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th from 9:00am-4:00pm. (Location: Honnold Library)
