SUMMARY:GIS Certification 2-Day Training with Javier Aguilar
DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in learning more about the field of GIS (Geographic Information System)? \nIf so\, we invite you to attend a 2-day GIS Certification course\, offered FREE of cost!!! \nThe goal of this training program is to increase representation in GIS and planning in Southern California. This training is for historically underrepresented populations (ex. students of color\, women\, and those from the LBGTQ community.)  The course will teach participants about GIS and basic planning concepts. \n\n—\nWhat is GIS?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA geographic information system (GIS) is a system that creates\, manages\, analyzes\, and maps all types of data. GIS connects data to a map\, integrating location data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there). This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used in science and almost every industry. GIS helps users understand patterns\, relationships\, and geographic context. The benefits include improved communication and efficiency as well as better management and decision making.\n\n\n\n\n—\nStudents who complete the 2-day training will receive a certificate with completion seals from GISCI. Participants will also learn more about paid internships and other opportunities within the field. \nThe training will occur throughout two days: \nFriday\, February 14th and Saturday\, February 15th from 9:00am-4:00pm. \nLocation: Honnold Library\, Poppy (formerly Mudd 3 South) \n— \n*SPACE IS LIMITED\, only 10 students will be admitted. This is a 2-day commitment so please keep that in mind when you register. \nIf you have additional questions\, please email clsa@claremont.edu. This training is only available for the 7 Claremont Colleges community. \nRSVP LINK HERE.
