Dear 7C Community,

I wanted to share with you that effective Monday, March 13, 2023, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) has updated its isolation and close contact guidance.

Accordingly, we are also updating some of our campus procedures.

On campus, effective Monday, March 13, 2023:

  1. COVID-19 cases in isolation can end their isolation after five days (so, on Day 6) WITHOUT any antigen testing needed as long as:
  • Symptoms are not present or are mild and improving, AND
  • The case has been fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of any fever-reducing medication)
  • Wearing a well-fitted mask will continue to be required around others, even after isolation ends, especially in indoor settings, for ten days.
    • If fever is still present, isolation continues until 24 hours after the fever resolves
    • If symptoms, other than fever, are not improving, isolation continues until symptoms are improving or until after Day 10

This shorter isolation period will lead to fewer academic and workplace disruptions and has been anxiously awaited in Los Angeles County since CDC updated its isolation guidance.

  1. Close Contacts are still strongly recommended, but no longer required, to:
  • Wear a well-fitting mask indoors around others through Day 10
  • Test for COVID-19 within 3-5 days

Saliva PCR testing remains widely available across campus through one of six test kit vending machines.

I want to thank everyone on campus for doing their part over the last couple of years so we could get to this position. The collective impact of these efforts (vaccines, masking, hand hygiene, boosters, testing, isolation, quarantine) has allowed us to return to the cherished in-person learning and other activities that enhance the campus experience.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this updated guidance, please feel free to contacts.tracers@claremont.edu.

Regards,
Prateek Jindal, DO
